Jonathan Sedar is a Bayesian data scientist and senior consultant with 15+ years of experience as a practitioner and leader in financial services.
His current focus is commercial & speciality insurance in the London and company markets, to deliver game-changing value to forward-looking businesses. Over the last 8 years he has delivered a variety of novel statistical modelling projects to improve pricing, broking, distribution and customer insight, and also assembled and ran an international data science & actuarial team supporting several MGA businesses.
He has worked in the USA, UK, Ireland, and remotely across Europe and East Asia. He believes in building strong technical communities, and co-created a data-for-good volunteer group, a technical meetup group, often speaks at industry conferences, writes technical blogs and contributes to open source projects.
Oreum Industries was born amongst the volcanoes of Eastern Jeju off the coast of South Korea in 2020. The traditional local dialect calls the island’s 360+ cinder volcanoes “오름” (in English, spelt “oreum” and pronounced “oː.rʊm” or simply “orum“), a word with origins in the adjective “오르다” (“oreuda“, to climb or ascend).
One can get a lot of thinking done on a hike up these unique and peaceful hills, and the views from the top are beautiful.
